WHEN YOUR YES HAS CONDITIONS
Unconditional Yes is a 21-day fasting and Bible study journey confronting the conditions, negotiations, preferences, and hidden alternatives that can become attached to our obedience.
We often want the call until the call comes into conflict with our conditions.
Through Scripture-rooted teaching, prayer, fasting, personal reflection, and honest self-examination, we are allowing God to expose the places where we have said YES—but with fine print.
Lesson One takes us into the story of Jonah and the command:
“Arise, go to Nineveh.”
Jonah was not confused about what God said. The conflict was between God’s instruction and Jonah’s preference.
Through Jonah’s journey, we will confront the difference between movement and obedience, peace and avoidance, surrender and control, mercy and comfort—and what happens when God’s Word comes to us a second time.
This is not a journey of performed surrender.
It is a journey of practiced surrender.
It is about removing the conditions.
It is about getting back to YES.

Reflection
As you complete your reading, don't rush through Jonah's story simply because it may be familiar.
Pay attention to Jonah's response to God's instruction.
Watch his direction.
Watch what happens around him.
Watch what it costs.
Watch what God prepares.
And pay particular attention to what changes when the Word of the Lord comes to Jonah a second time.

1. In Jonah 1:1–3, was Jonah unclear about what God wanted him to do, or did he knowingly choose another direction? What in the text supports your answer?
2. As you read Jonah 1–3, what do you notice about Jonah's repeated movement downward? Where does he go, and what happens as he continues moving away from God's instruction?
3. Compare Jonah 1:3 with Jonah 3:1–3. God gives Jonah essentially the same instruction, but Jonah gives God two different responses. What changed?
